Why Do Insects Circle Around Lights?

The main reason insects move around lights is a behavior called phototaxis, which means attraction to light.Many insects use natural moonlight to maintain direction while flying at night. Artificial lights such as bulbs and LEDs confuse them because these lights are much brighter and closer than the moon. As a result, insects keep flying around the light in circles.
Some insects are also attracted to the heat produced by certain lights.
